Garage Door Security featuring B&D Auto-Lock

B&D Auto Lock BannerThe security of your home, and by extension yourself and your possessions, is vital. Regardless of whether your garage is attached to your house, you need to ensure your possessions and home are well protected. The age-old adage ‘a chain is only as strong as its weakest link’ comes into play when talking about garage doors as well. The level of security that your garage provides doesn’t just rely on how advanced the lock is, it is also affected by the structure of the door and the thickness of the panels. If the door itself is made cheaply then it is likely quite a thin door; no matter how good a lock is, if the panel can easily be smashed through, the lock will make no difference.

Newer is safer

The older your garage door is, the more likely it is to be a security risk. Nowadays there is a lot of focus on security, however an older door will generally have fewer locking points; a single lock can take as little as 10 seconds to be drilled or cut out of a door. Many older doors also lack a security bar at the top where the door meets the frame, presenting a weakness that only requires a crowbar to be exploited. Another problem with old doors is that they used to use locking cables, which just need to be cut. If you buy a new garage door it will use locking rods instead, greatly increasing safety.

Which style is most secure?

The security of a garage door also changes with the type of door you have. A Tilt Door is a lot less secure than sectional or roller doors. The increased security of roller doors and sectional doors is due to their construction and how they work. Automated garage doors also tend to be more secure; most now use the door motor to force the door downwards constantly until it is told to open the door.

B&D Auto-Lock

Garages can store some of our most valuable possessions; B&D have designed a new automatic locking system which helps to protect your garage from burglary. The B&D Auto-Lock allows you to lock your garage using only your remote control.

How it Works

The B&D Auto-Lock works by receiving a signal from the remote and sending a thick, heavy bolt through the guard rail to stop burglars from forcing the door up and open and gaining access to you and all your belongings.

Can I Just Buy the Lock?

The B&D auto-lock comes standard with the B&D Panelift® Icon™ and can be added as an optional extra to other B&D Panelift® doors. The lock can also be added to an existing garage door if you buy a compatible B&D Automatic Opener along with it.
